Strong growth in the luxury sector

The ITB World Travel Trends Report will publish new trends and developments in the luxury travel sector on the occasion of the ITB in March. Luxury travel is booming, the market share of high-priced luxury travel is seven percent with double-digit annual growth rates. The most important insight is that luxury is no longer defined by opulence and status alone. Instead, values such as experiences, authenticity, leisure and time are now in the forefront of the luxury sector.

The most beautiful beaches in Europe

An up-to-date travel ranking can be the source of inspiration for summer holidays. According to Tripadvisor, the most beautiful beaches in Europe can be found in Crete (Elafonissi, Balos Beach and Lagon), Cyprus (Fig Tree Bay) and Portugal (Praia da Falésia). Luxury tour operators offer the most beautiful hotels in all these destinations.

The most popular luxury destination is….

The Maldives are the most popular travel destination in the luxury travel sector, followed by Asia, the USA, the Caribbean and South Africa. This was the result of a survey of 500 travel agencies and tour operators conducted by the agency Global Communication Experts GmbH. Unique experiences and ecological sustainability are particularly important for travellers in the luxury sector.

ITB 2018 in Berlin

The ITB, the International Tourism Fair, invites you back to Berlin from 7th to 11th March. 10,000 exhibitors from more than 180 countries are expected to attend the world´s largest travel trade fair, and the latest trends, hotels, destinations and themes will all be presented.

Travel trade fair in Hamburg

The travel fair LeisureWorld for Travellers, which took place last weekend in Hamburg, presented adventure and outdoor activity tours through southern and eastern Africa. The highlights of the travel industry include more and more nature trekking, off-road tours, expeditions and safaris that bring participants into close contact with nature.

Chile is the on-trend destination

The 2018 Winter Olympics will start in South Korea today, and in summer the World Cup will take place in Russia. It remains to be seen whether these two destinations will become new top destinations in the travel industry. But there´s no doubt that Chile will be the top destination in 2018. Not only Lonely Planet put the South American country at the top of its list of this year´s on-trend destinations, but also the Guardian put Chile on its holiday hotlist. And the New York Times continued its tradition of choosing „52 Places To Go“. Here too, Chile was able to push ahead and secure sixth place.

100 years of Nelson Mandela

National hero, immortal legend, freedom fighter, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and the first black president of his country: Nelson Mandela was respected and revered worldwide for his peaceful struggle against apartheid. In 2018, South Africa celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of the former president who died in 2013. Celebrations, awards and exhibitions are planned for the whole year.

Mauritius celebrates 50 years of independence

In 2018, Mauritius celebrates 50 years of independence. A perfect reason to visit this romantic island in the Indian Ocean. But Independence Day on 12th March is not the only reason for a trip to Mauritius. There are also the beaches with sand as white as icing sugar, the turquoise-blue sea, the superb food, the great golf courses and, and, and …..

Culinary tourism

Food safaris, gourmet weekends and culinary tourism are enjoying a worldwide boom. 20,000 food journalists and restaurant critics have rated the world´s best food destinations in a major study on behalf of Caterwings. One of the best (and one of the cheapest) cities for food is Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. Cities like Chiang Mai (Thailand) and Zanzibar (Tanzania) follow close behind. Dubai (United Arab Emirates) offers the most varied cuisine. Restaurant critics most like to eat in Peru, Spain and Japan.

Flight schedules 2018

In the coming year, German airlines will be flying to many new destinations. Eurowings is expanding its range with 22 new destinations: from Munich the airline will fly to Bangkok, Mauritius and Windhoek, among other places. From Cologne it will fly to Greece. The flight schedule includes Corfu, Rhodes and Kos. And from 2018 onwards, there will be flights from Stuttgart to Venice and the Greek island of Zakynthos.

Nelson Mandela´s villa becomes a luxury hotel

By 2019, it should be possible to sleep where Nelson Mandela once lived. The villa of the former President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who died in 2013, is to be transformed into a luxury hotel (5 to 7 stars), as reported on by News 24.

Where the water is still warm

The Mediterranean is cooling down now, and only in the eastern Mediterranean is it still between 25 and 29 degrees Celsius. If you book quickly, you can still enjoy a relaxing beach holiday in Cyprus. If you prefer water temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius, it´s better to travel to Thailand, the Seychelles or Mauritius. The water is currently 32 degrees there.

The best destinations in 2018

The travel guide „Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2018“ has chosen the most important destinations for the coming year. Chile was voted the most popular country in 2018, followed by a European destination in third place: Portugal – ahead of countries such as New Zealand and Mauritius. South Africa made it to 10th place. As far as cities go, Canberra (Australia) was a surprise in 3rd place. And Bahia in Brazil is among the top ten most popular regions. The complete list can be found in the illustrated „Lonely Planet Best in Travel 2018“.

New Asterix Adventures in Italy

Two years after their last adventure, Asterix and Obelix are off to Italy. The 37th volume will be released on 19th October with an initial circulation of around four million copies.

The luxury travel market is booming

Luxury trips are booming. In 2016, the global market even rose by four percent to a total of 1.08 trillion euros. And the demand for high-class hotels and exclusive travel continues to grow in 2017, while interest in luxury products such as fashion, watches and jewellery stagnates. Luxury in terms of experiences is becoming more important. Unique and unforgettable moments are what count. These are the findings of the „Worldwide Luxury Market Monitor“ study by the international management consultancy Bain & Company.

Cape Town becomes a Mecca for art with the opening of the Zeitz-Mocaa-Museum

Today the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, or „Zeitz Mocaa“ for short, is opened in Cape Town. The museum of African art and artists is set to become one of the Cape´s greatest attractions. British architect Thomas Heatherwick´s breathtaking design succeeded in transforming a former silo on the waterfront into the first museum for modern African art. The initiator of this mega-project, which is now mentioned in the same breath as London´s Tate or Bilbao´s Guggenheim, is the former head of Puma, the sports goods manufacturer, 54 year-old Jochen Zeitz. He has also donated his private art collection to the museum.

Nina Mut brought back from Marrakesh many new and unusual products for INTOSOL.

South Africa boom continues unabated

South Africa is booming as a travel destination. Last year saw a record number of visitors from Germany with, for the first time, more than 300,000 Germans travelling to the Cape. The trend continues: The INTOSOL PRIVATE LUXURY COLLECTION is already reporting that it is „fully booked!“ for Christmas and New Year´s Eve.

Safari Adventure and Beach Fun

Maldivian, the Maldives´ state-owned airline, is planning to offer weekly flights between Johannesburg and Malé. For tourists, this means the perfect holiday symbiosis of safari adventures, unique nature experiences and beach fun. Maldivian´s new service will make it particularly easy to combine the two popular holiday destinations of South Africa and the Maldives.

High booking figures for Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia has been part of INTOSOL´s portfolio for four years and, with its high booking figures, has been one of our customers´ most sought-after destinations from the very beginning. This is mainly due to the fact that on-trend destinations such as Indonesia and Thailand offer an attractive mix of cultural, nature and beach holidays. A growing interest is also to be seen in destinations such as Vietnam. The INTOSOL booking figures for this destination have increased significantly again in the current year.

New at INTOSOL: Bisate Lodge in Rwanda

The Bisate Lodge in Rwanda, only open since July 2017 and located in a natural amphitheatre, has already become one of the most beautiful hotel highlights of the year. Built on the slopes of an extinct volcanic crater, the luxurious lodge blends perfectly into the dense, green jungle landscape of the Volcanoes National Park. One of the highlights of a stay at Bisate Lodge is the opportunity to see mountain gorillas in the wild. INTOSOL is now accepting booking requests.

Cloud 9 – the most unusual pizzeria in the world

Cloud 9 is definitely one of the most unusual pizza hot spots of the summer: Cloud 9 is a floating pizzeria. It´s in the middle of the sea, off the coast of the main island of Fiji, or to be more precise, on the Malolo Barrier Reef. You can reach the pizzeria from Nadi in only 40 minutes by speed boat or in a good two hours by sailing boat. The small snack-bar paradise island offers – over two floors – sun loungers, tables and as much pizza as you can eat!

Increased interest in luxury tours

This year, INTOSOL has registered an increased interest in luxury tours that take in several countries. Among the most popular combinations are Argentina and Chile in South America, and Botswana, Namibia and South Africa in Africa. Botswana owes its popularity not least of all to its political stability and its wide variety of activities and attractions. South Africa and its neighbour Namibia have been particularly attractive for some time due to the favourable exchange rate. A high level of interest is being displayed in the Galapagos Islands of South America. Animal welfare and conservation are particularly important to travellers.

Travel for the 50+ Generation

Cruises and private villas are becoming increasingly popular with the 50+ generation travellers. INTOSOL attributes the increasing interest in this type of travel to the wish for a high degree of security, comfortable means of travel and first class service and to a great desire for privacy. The advantage of a cruise is that travellers can visit numerous highlights, even those in destinations that were previously reserved for adventurous or younger travellers, such as cruises on the Amazon or through Patagonia. The main advantage of private villas is that they offer the 50+ generation the pleasure of multi-generation holidays with the whole family.

Dubai announces on its official Facebook page a superlative new attraction: a 260 metre-high Ferris wheel, weighing 9,000 tons and standing over 200 metres high. „AIN Dubai“ is currently being built on the artificial luxury island of Bluewaters in the capital of the Arab emirate. The Ferris wheel is designed to take 1,400 passengers and, once completed, will be the highest Ferris wheel in the world.

Cruises also booming in 2017 – Follow the wind and the waves…

Last year, the numbers of Germans taking a cruise rose above two million for the first time. The boom continues unabated, and more and more luxury liners are setting sail. The launching ceremonies of three ships are scheduled for June, the most spectacular of which will take place in the Port of Hamburg on 1st June. This is when „Mein Schiff 6“ will be launched against the backdrop of the Elbphilharmonie concert hall. INTOSOL offers exclusive cruises on luxury liners, including those in waters as exotic as those of the Antarctic.
